Coupe Cloue Popular Haitian Musician: inventor of Kompa Mamba

Jean Henry, stage name Coupe Cloue, was a well-beloved Haitian musician. He began as a classical musician, but wound up developing a new genre of Haitian pop, kompa mamba, with his group Ensemble Select. Playing guitar on stage, he also performed as a story teller as well as vocalist.

Diabetes finally took his life in 1998. Thousands of mourners celebrated his life in an outdoor funeral in Port-au-Prince. The Minister of Culture joined the mourners.
