Jean Michel Daudier Biography

A legendary Haitian singer and songwriter Jean Michel Daudier encouraged and assembled thousands of Haitian both at home and abroad with his songs during the latest revolution of Haiti. He was a multi talented musician having good command on guitar, piano, synthesizer, ensemble and orchestra.

Daudier came in limelight in 1986 because of his protest song 'Lem pa we soley la' which means 'When I don't see the Sunshine'. The release shook the Duvalier regime and fuelled up revolution. The song earned enormous popularity and sold anonymously.

The popular musician Jean Michel Daudier was born in Haiti in a family full of musicians and poets. He learned guitar at the age of 15. He migrated to USA in 1989. His work was first documented in 1997 by Gage Averill in his book A Day for the Hunter, A Day for the Prey. Daudier released two revelatory albums 'Soley La' and 'Diaspora' when he was in Haiti.

Jean Michel Daudier performed in different countries and cities of Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and USA. He also performed in different prestigious venues of New York including Newark Symphony Hall and Brooklyn Academy of Music along with world's famous music clubs such as Sound of Brazil (SOB) and different venues of Haiti. He performed as solo artists as well as with prominent bands like System Band, Skah Shah, Tabou Combo. His songs are in mainly three languages French, English and Creole.

Initially Jean Michel Daudier resided in New York for ten years after migrating to USA. He now lives in Miami, Florida. There were a number of favourable articles and news published in different magazines and newspapers both in USA and Haiti about him.
