J Beatz attributes his music influences to electronic-beat groups like Nocturnal, Skepta, Y. Wizz, Bless Beats, and Maniac. But he adds "and anyone who makes good music." He is a music nerd's muse, delving deep into the art-school style of music prevalent at the end of the 70s and early 80s in Britain and the U.S. at that time.

A sampling of his mixes reveals both American and British cadences. On the "We are Who We Choose to Be" mix, a listener is reminded of the glimmering electronic backdrop of the U.S. Talking Heads' "Once in a Lifetime" on their Remain in Light album, released in 1979. J Beatz' re-mix of "Raindrops" recalls British Peter Gabriel's "Red Rain". Gabriel also released the wildly primitive "Shock the Monkey". On Beatz' mix-tape of "Raise Your Frequency", the ambient-music artist Brian Eno is echoed.
If you've never been a fan of electronic-beat music, J Beatz will make a convert out of you. He is quickly making his mark on the genre, standing on the shoulders of avant-garde electronic-rock artists, a seminal period in rock-music evolution.
