Djakout 1, T-Vice, Carimi not in Labor Day West Indian Parade, Eastern Parkway

The West Indian Carnival, known as the Labor Day Parade, which is held in Crown Heights, Brooklyn every year, is a fun-filled, well-highlighted stage showcasing the wealth of musical genres, interesting sounds and pure talent from Caribbean and South American bands. Each year, dozens of musical acts flock to the carnival that attracts millions and, this year, Haiti's presence was resoundingly hollow, an eventuality, which was foreshadowed after last year's already emaciated Haitian showing.

The festival goers go every year primed to see diverse musical styles coming out of different countries and, since the popularity of the festival has grown so tremendously from its beginnings as a gathering of Caribbean artists, organized by the committee started by Mrs. Jessie Waddell Compton and housed in various enclosed spaces including the Savoy, the lack of any Haitian acts promoting Konpa and other popular forms of Haitian music is a lack the country's music industry can ill afford.

CaRiMi, an Exceptional Haitian Musical Band

After leaving their homeland Carlo Vieux, Richard Cavé, and Mickael Guirand joined forces and branded their group CaRiMi; derived from the first two letters of each of their first names.

They worked together in Haiti about 10 years ago before a great reunion in New York. Carlo Vieux, Richard Cavé, and Mickael Guirand are great friends and musicians from Haiti who have purposed to make music their lifetime career.

The trio took time in studio preparing beats and new sounds that had never been aired in Haiti. After several months they came out with new lyrics focusing on the social and political problems of Haiti. The song titled "Ayiti Bang, Bang" was released in 2001. That summer the group became famous in their motherland being the first young bands to sing about the insecurity and political problems of Haiti.

We have learned that the Haitian Kompa group CARIMI is set to release their new music album soon. The big news however is that the group will bring something totally new in this new album.

My question is that will the audience accept the changes with CARIMI?

And that is the $1,000,000 question !

According to CARIMI Manager Fito Farinen, the core style of the band remains. However, in this new album all the group is trying to do is to attempt new style and see how the public reacts. He also said that the innovation came mainly from Carlo and Richard
On the other hand, many hard core fans of the band expressed their opinion on this attempt to change the style of CARIMI. Here is what I have heard so far:

The music of Carimi

Half a decade ago, three friends, Carlo Vieux, Richard CavÃ(c), and Mickael Guirand made the decision to further their education. To their surprise each had the same desire to pursue music and by taking the first two letters of their first names, CaRiMi was born. Drowning themselves in the studio in the hopes of creating a new sound, one that was uncommon in the Haitian Music Industry at the time, the guys found themselves putting to paper some profound, socially charged lyrics that encompassed the troubles in their native land.
