Jazz-Voodoo Fusion a Uniquely Haitian Product

Jacques Schwarz Bart, a jazz-voodoo saxophonist, has created a project he calls "Jazz Racine Haiti". His motivation was to uncover the roots of both jazz and voodoo. It is a little-known fact jazz has its source in Haitian voodoo, and now Bart has fused them and released his latest CD Sub Culture.

Performing live recently, Bart and his band introduced Jazz-Racine fusion. The basis of the Racinej format is to call forth spirits venerated in voodoo music. The group began with calling the spirit Legba, in the number "Ago eh". It segued into "Bade Zile", focused on a traditional theme. Another composition, "Vaudou Zepole" was made up of three parts: dialogue, harmony, and rhythm.

Boukan Ginen (Guinen)

A music band from Haiti, the group Boukan Ginen or sometime spelled Guinen became serious and came together in 1990. It was started by lead vocalist Eddy Francois. Boukan means bonfire or fire pit while Ginen evolved in Haiti as the name for the ancestral home of enslaved Africans, probably originating from the country Guinea.

Eddy Francois, along with percussionist Evens Seney and guitarist Vladimir Jean-Felix all came to Boukan Ginen from the band Boukman Eksperyans. Proud of their Haitian heritage, Boukan Ginen were the winners of best carnival song at Haitian Carnival in 1991, for the song Pale Pale. They ushered in the presidency of Father Jean-Bertrand Aristide, a huge change for the country as a whole with a song which was later released on their debut album, Jou a Rive. The song title means "talk" and included lyrics widely interpreted as supporting the presidency of Jean-Bertrand Aristide.

Introduction and History of the Boukman Eksperyans

Boukman eksperyans is one of the famous mizik rasin bands that is present in the city of port au prince, Haiti. This famous band derives its unique name from the Duty Bouksman. He was a priest in Haiti. He led a religious ceremony that was considered to be the introduction of the band.

This band was introduced in1978 and the owner of the band was beau burn and his sister. They were already the members of different groups of the bands so that they launched a new band in the same area.

Boukman Eksperyans Biography

A music band from the capital city of Haiti, Port-au-Prince, the name of the band Boukman Eksperyans is from a voodoo priest who was famous in 1971. Boukman Eksperyans was founded in 1978 by Theodore "Lolo" Beaubrun and his wife Mimerose and members of various groups who launched the Mizik Rasin revolution in Haiti in the late 1970s. One of these groups was led by Fanfan Alexis, and included the future musicians of such groups as Group Sa, Foula, and Rara Machine.
