Carnivale of Flowers Brings a Lot of Success in Haiti

In the month of July 2012, Haiti had its earth-breaking cultural event that attracted many people both in the Diaspora as well as within. The cultural event was meant to celebrate a carnival of flowers which was intended to promote tourism in Haiti.

The minister for tourism, Stephanie Balmir Villedrouin said that the carnival was a great success of the whole thing. He said that flights to Haiti at that time were full as well as the bus stations. At the same time, hotels were full accommodating all sorts of people. About 65 million Gourdes were spent to facilitate this event. Beginning from July 29 to 31, about one people were in the streets of Port-Au-Prince.

The head of state, Mitchel Martelly, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe and the First Lady, Sophia Martelly acknowledged all the participants who helped the carnival to be successful. They all praised the police department for the hard work done in maintaining the security and tranquility for those three days. In addition, they praised all the revelers for good cooperation. The health officers were not left behind also for their persistent work of treating the casualties.

In the end, the state decided to be having such a carnival of flowers every last weekend of July each year to help Haitians embrace their culture. The head of state issued a decree to this declaration. This event started back in 1916 and went on until 1973. It was revived again this year attracting many people around the world. During the three days, violence was reduced significantly as opposed to the previous years. It is said that only three people died while 155 got injured and were treated. Only 25 people were arrested and got executed.
