Rara is a colorful form of Haitian festival music with its roots in Africa that blends Christian and Voodoo influences. This genre is said to have begun in the later part of the 1700s when the French colonization was still strong in Haiti but African-Haitian sugar plantation workers were riling up gradually for gaining independence. During the revolution, the Haitians fought with the colonizers literally and culturally with their art, music and dance.
