Musician Manno Charlemagne Risked Life for His Art

Haitian musician Manno Charlemagne, an acoustic guitarist, has been a voice for his people. From his early 20s his protest songs against the repressive Haitian government have forced him into hiding repeatedly.

Beginning with Papa Doc's dictatorship and ending with Jean-Bertrand Aristide's ouster Manno went into exile.

When he finally returned he was elected Port-au-Prince's mayor. Although not a professional politician, Haitians knew they could trust him to fight for their rights.
