Some of the leading reasons for poverty in the country are rapid population growth, unplanned economy, natural disasters and political and social turmoil. The country does not produce enough food crops and livestock to feed its people. It imports 80% of the rice it consumes and 60% of the food it needs. As per the World Bank analysis, some of the reasons of Haiti's poverty are: lack of infrastructure, poor access to credit, limited social capital, low educational levels and the existence of power structures that preserve inequalities and poverty.
